A BIT OF HISTORY

Around 1765, by the will of the D'Adda, was built the first nucleus of the villa. The building has been attributed (by analogy with that of the balcony on the facade of Milan's Palazzo Sormani), Francis Cross, a prominent member of the Late Baroque Lombard.
The architect, active until 1773, along with Ruggeri is considered the inventor of the type of eighteenth-century Lombard villa.
In 1781 the Marquis Giambattista D'Adda entrusted the task to renovate the house to Giuseppe Piermarini and detect a period of great fortune for his family because, in that year, she returned to have feudal rights of Cassano, in addition properties that already had.
A local reporter, Milani, in his "Annals of the village and parish of Cassano," recalls June 26, 1807 that Napoleon and Joachim Murat, were guests of the villa. Milani also argues that the Villa Reale in Monza was built by Piermarini, would rise up to Cassano: not, however, the area of Villa D'Adda, but on one that stretches from the Castle to the north.
While it is not possible to assess 1'attendibilità of this news, it should be noted that in any case, Cassano, already an important military center since the early Middle Ages with an imposing castle guarding the bridge over the Adda, in the '600 and '700 became place of primary importance for the resort of the Milanese, helped by excellent transport links by road and especially by water (Martesana).
Villa Borromeo, passed by the Borromeo d'Adda by inheritance to the 800, was used until the Second World War as a holiday resort and receptions, which was also attended by personages of royal houses.
